RE: left eye dominant, and right handed???

I am left eye dominant and right handed as well. With a rifle, I shoot right handed because it feels comfortable. Duck hunting, I shoot right handed so that I don't get a cartridge in the cheek. Upland hunting, I shoot both right and left handed depending upon where the animal flushes from and which way is faster.

That said, with a new shooter, I would teach them to shoot on the appropriate side in relation to their eye dominance.

Good luck,

Hheehehe thanks for the vote of confidence James :D Butch I always wondered if anyone could be as confused about things as I was..lol. I throw baseball left handed and football right handed. Kick with right leg and bat left handed. I am comfortable shooting right handed...but I will say having deer come in from the wrong side has never been a problem when I am sitting because its not a problem to shoot em left handed...feels a little weird but seems to be just as accurate. In fact the longest shots I have ever made with the rifle have came left handed. I have a metal rod I made that i forked that I use for a shooting stick, well the way I in that field hots are to the right. Works very well so I dunno...lol. As for bow...I have never tried a lefty bow. Might be something I need to check into though. Thanks for the advice.

im right handed but i cant see out of my right eye so i just learned to shoot lefty. now its natural as walking. i think repetition and comfort is key. keep at it any way and it will work

The answer to this is get a pair of shooting glasses and put electrial tape over the left lens, he then teaches himself the correct eye dominace. Before ya'll start think I'm full of it think of this, baracade drill if your right handed and left eye dominant your whole head is sticking out from behind the baracade.

You have to teach him to shoot lefthanded. I have the same problem as he. I have been shooting for 10 years. If my right eye gets anyworse, I will have to switch. this will put me back quite a bit in my skill level. I am able to shoot handguns righthanded by shifting the pistol over to my strong eye. But Not rifles.
Your boy is new at shooting. The wrongness he may feel at holding a gun left-handed should disappear quickly with practice. The eye is the first and most important element of shooting.
You will have less luck finding deals at guns shows in lefty guns. But most manufacturers make lefty models.

Same question I possed to the forum back in Nov 2005. I taught my wife to shoot left handed. She is left eye dominate and right handed. Wasn't too difficult. She owns a NEF handi-rifle and has taken deer with it this past deer season.

RE: left eye dominant, and right handed???

I am left eye dominant but right handed as well. When I first began shooting my dad taught me to shoot right handed because well thats how he did it, it never felt right but I could do it adequately. Once I came closer to hunting age my dad noticed I was struggling and suggested to try left hand shooting after some testing proved I was left eye strong. For me it was a world of difference everything just fit and I haven't looked back since.A number of years ago I went to my first left handed bolt action rifle and will never own anything but in a bolt. This change has made for a better fit personally which to me is extremely important for shooting.

I would personally wouldn't force him to shoot one way over the other, let him try it both ways till he can make up his own mind which feels and works best.

Iwas told to use shooting glases and to place a small spot in the linse that the dominant eye used in the precise spot where you look when sighting the gun. This way when your son looks thru his sights his non dominant eye will automaticly take over. It's not supposed to intefer with walking and such, though I don't know if it is any help at changing his eye dominance permantly.

HEY I'M REALLY SCREWED UP!!!
Left eye dominant...write right handed, shoot right handed, swing bat and golf club left handed.
I would hand the kid a bb gun and dont say a word...he will find which is most comfy warm and cuddly for him, daddy.
