Anyone ever shoot a 35 remington?

My grandfather gave me an old gun and it's a 35 Marlin Model. It kind of looks like a 30-30. It is a pretty neat looking gun and would like to keep it even though I hunt mostly with a .270 Savage. Can anyone tell me about tis kind of gun, and if it would be worth my time and money to scope it and use it or should I try to sell the damn thing?

I hunt in West Virginia woods. My longest shots would be about 150 yards. Thanks for any info!

It's a good gun with-in its range. I wouldn't really scope it becasue it's range is only about 100-150yds. Pretty close to a 30-30. Heavier bullet and a little slower but still a good gun. Plenty of knock down power.

Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage.

It's a neat cartridge for those 150 yard and under shots you are talking about. I hunt in WV as well and although I'm primarily a bolt guy, I wouldn't feel a bit uncomfortable hunting with your 35.

Thats what I use in Wirt County, Hand loads with 180 gr Speer. I get second dibs

WV, If ALF doesn't buy it, let me know. The Marlin 336 in 35 REM is one of my all-time favorite guns. If you keep it, I would second the notion of "no scope". Go with a peep sight instead.

I use one here in northern Maine. I inherited mine from my grandfather and wouldn't let it go for the world. Great deer and bear cartridge. Before I'd go off and sell it, TRY it. In my opinion, I haven't found anything that I like better when stillhunting and tracking. I shoot 200 gr. Core-lokts and when you hit a deer it is sort of like hitting them with a brick.

Accurate beyond my expectations, nice to carry, and a very efficient deer killer within its range. What more can you ask for???

I would scope it with the lightest, smallest 2.5X scope you can find mounted as low as you can mount it. I used one several times in Texas and New Mexico, and although it is no long-range proposition, in close brushy quarters, the old .35 is a great deer round, in a rifle or a handgun! I loaded my ammo with the 180 grain Speer flatnose bullet @ about 2400 FPS.

Keep yore powder dry!!

I agree with Portage. I have met many hunters here in Maine that consider it the best all around deer gun for mid to heavily wooded areas. Whether or not that's true is a matter of opinion but it is certainly a great lever action rifle. I would hold on to it.

all my buddies except for two use the 35 remington up in maine. where the shots cane be up real close and out to 150yds. all use a 1-4 scope or a 3-9 scope on there's. i have seen what a 200gr. rem core-lokt can do to a deer at 75yds.
they look like a mack truck hit them. i would personally use peep sights or the iron sights with a gun that is made for under 150yds. i would not push that distance. it is also a pleasure to shoot. some places you might have problems finding ammo for it. but ammo at wal-mart is about $15.00

I have one and killed a lot of deer with it. I used 200 grn winchester power points. I used it for climbing stand hunting in the woods, but 2 years ago when I bought my muzzle loader, I took the 4 power scope off of it and put it on the muzzle loader, so I haven't used it since. Now for climbing stand hunting and hunting stands where my shots are 200 yds. and under, I now use my remington 30-06 pump, parkerized with synthetic stocks shooting 165 grn tbbc's. But I did love that .35 for what I used it for, I am holding on to it for my son to use, right now he's only 16 months old though!

If you change your mind let me know. I got 3rd dibs. Sighting in iron sights? Hope thats a joke. Rear goes in the direction you want the bullet to go.

I've seen 4 times as many 35's as I have 7-08's and you can find ammo in many Walmarts so use it and I think you'll like it.

If my grandpa gave me a gun, well lets say it would never be for sale. Keep it and use it.
