Type of bullet?
I'm just curious as to how you can tell the difference between bullets when they arent in a box. I know that there are letters on the bottom of the bullet but ive found that they dont match up with the type of bullet they actually are so a little help please and thank you.

RE: Type of bullet?
There is no way of destinguishing the different bullets just by looking at a loaded case, with few exception.
Here is a list of the major ammo manufacturers and what their head stamps are. Federal = - F C - for Federal Cartridge or -F C H E - for Federal Cartridge high energy. Remington = R P for Remington Peters Winchester = Winchester Hornady = Hornady or Frontier Weatherby = Weatherby |
RE: Type of bullet?
If its just bullets, you can Mic them then weigh them.

RE: Type of bullet?
Speer used to stamp GS on the base of their grand slam bullets. I dont know if they do so anymore. I've never herd of any other manufacteres marking their bullets, although It's possiable they didso without my knowing.

RE: Type of bullet?
You can I.D. a Nosler Partition, there's lead exposed at the base. Loaded factory ammo is tough as far as what grain bullet you have.
