Default 30.06 or .300 WSM?

I havehunted witha 30.06 for the last twenty years and love the caliber. Last year I bought a Benelli R-1, and although it shoots nice and handles great,I guess I'm just not a semi-auto guy. I held a Tikka T3 today and fell in love. What a sweet gun.

So here is my question. Which would you choose, 30.06 or a .300 WSM? I mostly hunt whitetails in northern New England and shots (for me anyway) rarely exceed 100 yds. However, I hope to one day draw a moose permit and Iam planning a trip outwestfor a hunt.

I would appreciateany help.

i have a t3 300wsm and i love it but the 30.06 is plenty enough gun for what your needs are . i hunt northern minnesota for whitetail mostly but plan on going west for elk this fall.
there is no such thing as overkill. dead is dead.

I would stay with the 30-06 just because its common to buy ammo for and it is plenty of gun for North America.

I would say the 30-06 would meet your needs perfect. I like the 06 cause ammos everywere its cheap were as the 300 wsm is a little higher priced but still avalible at most major stores.

Really, you can't go wrong. Both guns will do everything you want.

I guess its been outdated since 1903 but it still keeps getting the job done...lol
Seriously you might not notice too many differences "maybe some"...however having another gun around for your collection and enjoymentis always nice too. good shootin.

I've owned both, killed deer and elk with each caliber, couldn't tell the difference on game between the two.Sold the WSM and hunt primarily withthe 06 (still use a 270 win as well).

The ballistics and statistics of the 30-06 will never be out of date. Itkills game just as well as it ever did. There is not a dimes worth of difference in the real world. Ammo is much more common for the 30-06 which is not a big deal but its one of its strengths. No moose, elk or deer will ever know the difference either.
