6mm remington?
 

6mm remongton and 243 win are virtually identical right? 6mm rem is a little better on paper, from what i have read. it seems to me that 6mm rem is not chambered in near as many rifles. is it chambered in any ruger rifle?

According to their site, ruger.com, they chamber it in the Model 77 Standard model. I think they used to carry it in the Number One as well. I like the 6mm Remington much better than the 243. I have had several of each and the 6mm always seemed to perform better on deer size game. I know there is not a lot of difference on paper, about 100-150 fps. However it seemed to do much better in the field for me. I am looking at one right now in the 700 ADL synthetic. I may get it today.

I agree with James B. On paper they make look fairly identical but with on game performance the 6mm wins hands down. That little edge it does have seems to make a world of difference to me. Once i shot the 6mm i sold my 243 and haven't looked back since ;). I just wish everyone knew how capeable the 6mm is. The selection in guns and ammo for this caliber is very poor, but one thing is for sure performance isn't poor to say the least.

Love mine but ammo "is" scarce !!

I tried some Hornady Interlock 100's this year and was pretty impressed on the only deer I shot with them !Shot a big doe through the shoulder and it exited about halfway back(last rib on opposite side)on about a 80 yrd shot . Typicallyany deer I shot there would drop but the bullet would not passthrough.......but the interlock went all the way through andhad a good exit hole......and dropped her instantly!!

I have had real good luck in the past with Federal Nosler Partition 100's though for sure!! I think I only shot one deer that did not drop in it's tracks with them !!

DD. You bet, this will be the last new gun. Also Ted Kennedy loves assault weapons.;)I didn't make it down to the Gun shop this weekend. We had a ground Blizzard going on. Its a 100 miles and it was the middle of the storm.

For sure the Nosler Partition is the cream of the crop for 6MM Bullets. I had good luck with them in both the 6MM and 243. Your are right, in the field there is little comparison between the two. The 6MM is a superior round. I have had several of each and a lot of side by side comparison. I had a Left Hand Remington 788 in 6MM and let a gal deal me out of it. She never would sell it back to me though.[:@]

I would prefer a .243 Ackley Improved, 240 Weatherby,or a 6MM-284 to either the regular .243 or 6MM Remington. Both the .243 Ackley and the 6MM-284 are not very difficult wildcats to manage and deliver outstanding performance on game.

In mine (rem model 7),

I've never shot anything but regular ol 100gr core-lokts. Performed spectacular. It's my favorite local whitetail gun.

Just bought my first ever 244 yesterday. Found it at a gun show. It's a 722 Rem. in 244. Got a set of dies for it also. Brought it home and proceeded to get the copper fouling out of the barrel. Still working on that. Lots of Butches' Boreshine,and still scrubbing. Hope she cleans up soon. I want to get started loading and shooting groups. Groundhog season is just around the corner--------
Anyone got any tips on removing YEARS of fouling from the bore?? The rifling looks O.K. , just keep getting copper out of it......
