reducing recoil

does anyone have any experiance with those recoil reducing mercury filled tube, or the butt-plate things that have the piston in them (danuser counter coil recoil reducer) that claims to take up to 50% of the recoil away. Are the effective, would like to reduce recoil in one of my larger cal. guns so i can shot it more than 7-8 times at the range, but dont want all the noise of a break

RE: reducing recoil

No experience with the devices you are talking about. I added lead shot in the cavities of my synthetic stock and it reduced the recoil quite a bit.

For about $50 you can pick up a shooting vest made for trapshooting. Its recoil pad makes rifle shooting pleasant.

RE: reducing recoil

could i install the mercury dill my self or would a gunsmith have to do it for me. The other thing says i could install it my self(found them both in brownells)

AKHUNTER what % would you say it reduced it. I have never shot a 458 or any thing like that. What do you think it would make a 300 win mag feel like. A 270 or 243 or what?

FIT is no.1 recoil reducer, the mercury only works when the gun is perpendicular to the ground, shooting up or down it doesnt help.
MIND control, total concentration works 4 me. The last time I shot a .338 I handed the gun off telling the owner it hardley kicked, but when I got home and looked in the mirrow I FOUND OUT MY HAT WAS ON BACKWARDS.

RE: reducing recoil

My gunsmith charged me $88 for the a new recoil reducing but plate and $165 to port the muzzle on my 7mm Rem Mag.
Made it louder than I really wanted it to be but reduced the recoil enough that it no longer hurts to fire it.

this may sound stupid or immature, but what i do when shooting bigger guns is just not think about it, or say to myself, what doesnt hurt you makes you stronger. Its wierd but stuff like that really does help w/ me
