Remington model 7 accuracy

Looking at getting the 7mm-08. Is the shorter 20inch barrel as accurate as the 700. I like the shorter barrel for stand hunting but I also need the accuracy for long range 200-300 yards on power lines. Let me know what you all think.

Well, all rifles are individuals when it comes to velocity and accuracy both. However, to the best of my knowledge, the Model 7 is as accurate as the Model 700, and a 20 inch barrel, while costing a few FPS in muzzle velocity, tends to be stiffer, and hence potentially even more accurate, than a longer one of the same contour. I don't think 300 yards would be stretching the Model 7's capabilities.

A shorter barrel has nothing to do with accuracy...In the same thickness barrel the shorter one will have a tendency to be more accurate...because it is stiffer...and won't vibrate as much at the shot....That being said...the barrels on the Model 7 are a little thinner than on a 700...I prefer a full sized rifle, increased weight usually helps a shooter hold more steady for longer shots....But...all this is a guys personal preference....a Model 7 is plenty accurate for those 300 yard shots...thats really what you need to know...

One of my younger brothers has had a Model 7 in 7mm-08 since the early 80's...Has probably killed 150 deer or better with...all he uses are 140 gr CoreLokts...groups run 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches...He has pulled off several 250 to 300 yard shots on power lines and over crop fields...its a great little gun and I prefer the 7mm-08 caliber in this rifle....I have another friend that bought a .260 Model 7 a few years back...It was much pickier on what it shot and he finally started reloading for that gun...he also did a ton of work to the rifle tuning it up...It kills deer...but he spent enough on the gun to have bought another one...Good Luck

Never had an issue with accuracy with the Model 7 .243 I had owned in the past. I liked it for my yote/varmit gun. The shorter barrel made it easy getting in and out of my jeep quickly.

Thanks for the info, I also have a Leupold vx3, 3.5x10x50,(traded from a guy) would this scope be a good combination for the model 7.

Probably be good on any high caliber rifle. I put one on a NEF .243. for my wife as a temporary thing. Now she won't give it back. That particular scope is going to add some weight but you can get any better (IMO).

RE: Remington model 7 accuracy

I have a model seven in 260rem and it is one of the best rifles I have ever bought.
It is very fast handling and comes to my eye like a good shotgun, I have had great success with it out to 250m. (even on rabbits)
If I fire a lot of shots in the space of a few minutes then groups will start to string vertically but on game I haven’t noticed this at all and it has proven to be quite a one hit wonder with very few occasions requiring a follow up shot, I put this down to the handling and balance of this rifle and the confidence I feel when using it.
I prefer to use lower magnification scopes for game animals I use a 2.2-7X36 Kahles on it with low mounts and I find it helps the balance of the outfit a great deal and improves my performance with it immensely, I have tried to use larger scopes on it but I feal that it throws the balance right off.
