Marlin guide gun

I'm in the market for a used Marlin 45/70 guide gun. If anyone has one for sale, please let me know.

You can have mine only if you can pry it from my fingers. It is .45-70, ported. These are handy, powerful little rifles. Mine's record is 2 shots, 2 black bear.

They are hard to find used. I have one in the .450 Marlin and have a list of a half a dozen people trying to buy it from me. All my friends end up shooting it more than me because as soon as I'm not around that is the rifle they grab to go hunting with.

How do they grab it if you are not around???

CHMA, the recoil from the factory REM loads is TAME. Shooting the 420gr Garrets off the bench is painful. I'd say just short of a 3.5" turkey load. More recoil than my .416 rem, 300gr X with max loads.

You know I was worried about it. But I load up hot >2100fps 300gr loads with 49gr of IMR4198 and 300gr partitions, and it kicks a whole lot less than my 870 pump with a 1oz sabot'd slug. Maybe even less than my STW. But maybe more than a 30-06.

I did install a grind to fit recoil pad. Really nice.

I had the outfitter which is the guide gun in 444 marlin.I sold it to my hunting buddy he was always using it anyways. I still have my 444s. I have an 1894p marlin in 44 magnum with the 16.5 inch barrel. My buddy wants the 44 magnum also but he's not getting this one.

my 45-70 has the recoil similar to the 30-06 maybe a bit less with my handloads. But, like I mentioned in my previous post, mine is ported which may reduce the felt recoil slightly.

Wow, I had no idea I would get such a conversation started with a simple question. I have only shot a guide gun once, and I also found the kick to be surprisingly mild (with a factory load). I can tell from posts on other forums that they are pretty popular. Looks like I might have to buck up and buy a new one. Thanks for all the input, guys.

I have seen several used here in Iowa. Some ported, some not. Factory loads are a cupcake; I used to have one & went to a single shot.
