remington 597 trigger job?

Has anyone done a trigger job on a 597?
I am going to do one on a rifle I just bought and am wondering how difficult it might be.
I have never done a Remington rimfire before and would like any help as to whether it is just a straight foward deal or can be a nightmare.
Thanx for any and all help.

aunsaber, you can't polish a turd. The only way to do anything to that potmetal and ballpoint pen spring trigger assembly is to get an aftermarket trigger. The 597 is a nightmare period.

Gee Frizz let us know how you really feel about Remingtons. In all honesty Aunsaber you should probably off the 597 and get a 10/22 and save yourself a lot of hassle.

oldelkhunter, I don't dislike all Remington models, just the trashy ones.

Trigger jobs on most rimefire's are a pain!! Not worth the trouble in my book. I tryed is a few years back and had to get a new sear because I honed too much off! Once you take it off you can't put it back on...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Frizz I agree with you on that 597 is a half hearted attempt to get into the 10/22 market which is rugers and theirs alone. Aunsaber I was looking thru the Brownells catalog and they offer few accessories for that rifle but they do have a hammer that is purportedly going to reduce trigger pull about 50% . Hope that helps somewhat.

How about for the Model 700? I am also looking at doing a trigger job, Can I adjust the sensitivity on the trigger for this rifle? what would be involved?

moosecaller, if you don't know what you are doing with a trigger adjustment, you can very quickly end up with an unsafe firearm. Do yourself a favor and pay the small fee the gunsmith will charge.

I agree with Frizzllr! The 597 is pure junk! (and that's being nice!)
It has got to be one of the worse rifles ever produced! If you could do a triiger job on it, the trigger would be worth 10 times what the rest of the gun is worth! I've considered using mine for a trotline anchor, but Frizz said it wouldn't be good for that either!
