I am currently looking for an after-market heavy barrel for my 10/22. Any opinions as to which brand is the best value for the money? Is Volquartsen worth the extra money? Should I go with stainless, aluminum or carbon fiber. I will be using the gun in the woods, but I plan on slinging it, so I am not sure if weight will be a big issue.

Green Mountain 16" fluted or their sporter barrel would get my vote for best value in a hunting barrel.

I have the Butler Creek carbon fiber barrel on my 10/22 and I also did a Power Custom trigger job on it. I topped it off with a Nikon 4.5-14x40 scope and its a tack driving gun, and very lightweight.

Green Mountain is the Best I've found. I built 3 10/22 "ultimates in the past couple years and I used all of the following in this order of quality Green Mountain, Adams and Bennet and Butler Creek.

Another note.... All three 10/22's were tackdrivers with any of those barrels. The trigger is the key to your 10/22 shooting well.
