Winchester .375

I have never heard of this caliber and was wondering what you guys think of it?? I have a Winchester lever action that is in that caliber. All I know is the shells are big! I can just imagine the recoil. Think it would be enough for bear or overkill for deer? Thanks for any help you van offer.

I think it would make a good black bear gun for you at reasonable ranges, and no, I don't think you can overkill a deer with it.(A little humor there----probably very little---)

It would be a fine deer and black bear gun. I had one in the Winchester lever gun and the T/C contender. Its almost a clone of the 38-55 but not interchangable.

I have a friend who has a .375 Win. barrel for his T/C Contender, and it has worked well for him on elk with a Barnes 210 gr. XFB. He wants to test the Barnes 235 gr. XLC FB depending on velocities.Good luck.

Ballistically, it is almost identical to the .35 Remington - a good short-range rifle for deer and black bear. It is a juiced-up .38/55, a cartridge which originated in the early 1880's. But still a good one......

Basically a little heavier than a 30-30, almost the same as a .35 rem.It was a modern version of the old 38-55.I don't think they chamber guns for this cal(.375) any more? You might have a hard time finding ammo for it. If you want a big bore lever gun go with a 45-70 or .444 Marlin. IMHO

its not over kill and its great for a woods gun. the bullet weights make it have a large amount of drop at long range so id go with a max range at 200 yards and that would be where i would make the zero.

I have one in a .356 , And I would think the .356 has a little more recoil being loaded to higher pressures and having more energy .. I don't think the .356 kicks bad ..
