what do you have on your 308
 

what kind of scope do you have on your 308? what do you use it for (deer,yotes paper puncher etc) and what do you feel your max range is with that combination?

I use a Nikon 3-9X40 on my T/C Encore. I use it for deer, yotes and paper and it's good out to 200 yards. Proably better if it had a better shooter behind it :D

M77RS tang safety Burris fullfield 1.75x5. Its a loaner gun or maybe the start of a project gun

M77R this guy has a B&C stock, the old one with the built in sling, and has a Ziess 1.5x6x40 (or42?) 30mm tube. This has been my standard rifle for a quite a few years. #3 may replace it.

M77MkII all-weather Timiny trigger and a Burris 1.5x6x40 30mm Euro Diamond. New this last year. I bought it rebarrell to 358 but it shot 4 five shot groups under .75" the first time out..now I am thinking I should keep it and use gun #1 for my 358.

I use these guns for general whitetail hunting in NYS VT and NH. About 3/4 of it is from a stand. Short range mostly 15-80 yds. I like low power scopes that are bright and tough. I am sure 6x is more than enough to shoot 300+ yards if I had to.

At 1.5I can shoot both eyes open if I wish. My one complaint is that I could use a little more power for load development. One day I will probably buy something like a 16X and use it just for shooting groups for new loads. All my bolts are rugers so I can do the scope change pretty easy.

I should say that when I bought the last scope I tried it next to the Ziess conquest and a VXIII andI thought it was brighter than the lupie and neck and neck with the Ziess.It is a little heavy tho.

Leupold VariX-II 2x7x33 on my bolt.
VX-II 1x4x20 on my pump.

General purpose big game rifles for hunting here in Maine (or elsewhere).

NoKnees- never shoot a donor rifle. They always end up shooting like yours did and its harder to chop em.:D

On the rifle I use mostly Ruger 6.5mmSwede I have a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44.

Leupold 4x12x40 on a Tikka T3 varminter stainless. I use it on coyote, elk, deer, cougar, bear, and pronghorn. My favorite load is 165 grain ballistic tip, either federal or nosler, with a load of 41. Besides hunting, I compete in long range paper, and I would not trade my .308 for anything, except if I am using my .338 Lapua. But still, .308 is my favorite.

When I had my 700 FV in 308, it was topped with a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10X50. It was only used for target shooting, and I routinely shot it out to 500 yards.

I have a Ruger 77 Ultra Light with a Luepold V II 1-4 and a Rem. 742 Carbine with a Williams peep sight. Both are used for northeast whitetail hunting.

I currently have a Sightron 4X16 with mildots on my .308; which is a Remington 700 with a HS Precision T/S stock and a carbon fiber sleeved Shilen 1:12 Select Match. Most of its use has been punching paper out to 500 yards, although I did shoot one coyote with it (on the way back from the range) and one elk with it last November (just so I could say this dog could hunt). Wonderful "high confidence" rifle.

I have a Leupold Vari X III in 2.5 x 8. I use my Remington VLS for anything from deer up.Love it.

A Zeiss 3-12 x 56 with a fat three post reticle. 30 mm tube.
Works great for everything but I made the choice because of the exellent low light performance.
Can also recommend the nightforce line of scopes. Almost as good as Zeiss I think.

I am a fan of the .308 caliber (7.62 NATO), and currently have 3. #1 is a Ruger 77II sporter with a 22" barrel. I have a Nikon Titanium 3.5-10 shooting 165 grain Nosler Partitions at 2700 fps at deer out to 300 yards, or further if I have to, and have a good rest. This rifle has a Bell and Carlson composite stock that looks like grade 3 walnut. I mostly use this rifle in Maine. #2 is a Ruger 77II compact with a Nikon Monarch 3-9, shooting 150 grain Noslers, mostly for deer in Maine and Virginia. #3 is a new Remington 7400 parkerized, with another Nikon Monarch 3-9. I have not fired it yet, but plan to work up some 150 grain Nosler loads and 130 grain Barnes TSX loads to try. This may end up as my wife's gun for hunting from a stand.

Ok so I have to be different. Got a Howa in a BC stock around 20 years ago, It has a Nikon 4x monarch sitting on it, and I would feel comfertable (ok so I can't spell) out to 250 or so the furthest I've ever shot a deer is at 125 steps, I hunt the thick, enjoy up close and personal

I got a ol winchester model 88 that my grandfather left to me. I don't use it much as I have a few other rifles. I did have a leupy 3-9 on it, but the gun itsef although fairly accurate has a trigger creep on it that's a little tough. Got a lot of sentimental value. so I took off the scope and have made some good shots on varmints with open sights--If I ever put anything back on it, it will probably be the old weaver 4x that pap had on it. I think I might even put those old flip-over mounts that he had back on.

The scope doesn't dictate how far I will shoot, my skill level does.

I KNOW YOUR "SKILL LEVEL"DETERMENS HOW FAR YOU CAN SHOOT TSCHAEF, BUUUTTTTTTT.......... IF I TAKE LETS SAY EVERYONE ON HERE THAT USES A 308WITH A 3X9 SCOPE AND ADD ALL THEIR DISTANCES TOGETHER AND DIVIDE I GET WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR......AN AVE.. AND BY THIS AVE I CAN JUDGE HOW FAR (GIVE OR TAKE) I WOULD BE ABLE TO SHOOT WITH IT,JMO, BUT THATS HOW I HAVE DONE OTHER THINGS IN LIFE AND IT SEEMS TO WORK SO I DID IT HERE TOO.

A 5-15x50 Bushnell Elite. I use it for everything from groundhogs to deer. I used to switch it out for a 3-9X Leupold in deer season, but got tired of switching and the 5-15 works great.
