I have shot a 270 for 20 years and used to shoot the cheapest 150 grammo that WalMart sold. I never had any trouble killing deer with one shot; no wounding and no tracking. As my financial situation improved, I began to try more expensive ammo that was "ballistically" superior to the cheap stuff that I had been killing with. I am currently shooting Winchester Supreme 140 gr Accubonds and have had great luck with them, but I am seriously considering going back to the cheapest 150 gr ammo that WalMart sells just to see if there is any difference.

My 270 has never shot any better than when I shot Federal HI-SHOK 130 gr. soft points, I don't know if they make them anymore, but my gun liked those the best. I have had mixed results with Core-lokts and the cheapy Winchester silver box stuff. I tried Federal gamekings this year along with Fusion's and Barnes coated xlc's (all 130 gr.). The gamekings grouped the best of the three but I hunted with the Barnes and was happy with the results. In my Midway flyer I see they have Federal 130 grain XLC's for 12.99 for a box of 20, I paid $15 (which is what I paid for the Fusions). If I wasn't rebarreling my gun to a .280 rem I would definately buy more.

For deer I generally use regular ole 130 grain Remington corelokts. That's all the bullet any whitetail or mule deer will ever need.

For elk I have used failsafes, ballistic tips, and trophy bonded bear claws in 140 grains and in 150 grain I have used Nosler partitions and corelokt round nose. All have been one shot kills and less than 75 yards tracking. The only one recovered was a 140 grain TBBC.

If you want one bullet for deer and elk I would suggest any of the premium bullets that stay together well in 140 grains. Such as Barnes X bullets, Trophy Bonded bear claws, A-frames, etc...

I have used about everything but this season I used the Federal 130 grain Fusions. I can't see ever using anything else again. These shells work great and grouped well under an inch in my 700 ADL For elk, the 150 grain fusions. I will most likely never load a shell for this rifle.

Like some here, I have used a 270 as my primary hunting rifle (for almost 30 years). I have been fortunate to take moose, black bear, caribou, sheep, mtn goat, and lots of deer with 130 and 150 gr corelokts. I discovered corelokt ULTRAS last year and they accounted for 9 whitetails. This year I used 150gr NPs, and they worked just fine. I'll stick with the NPs for a few more yearsas I bought 10 boxes ofFed Prem NPs foran unbelievably low price on closeout from wally world.

My 270 always shot the 130 hi-shok Federals better than anything. It shot almost any 130 gr bullet good....but the hi-shoks were REAL good. Only thing I have put through it that wouldnt group at all were the 150 speer Federal Classics.

When I bought my first 270, I bought two boxes of Remington 130 gr Corelokts factory loads with it too. They shot so well that the only reason to reload for it was becasue I already had the reloading equipment.

My pet load is 55.9 grs of IMR4350, CCI 200 primers, Rem brass, and Sierra 130 gr SPBT. The measured muzzle velocity slightly over 3000 fps. I never did crono the factory load ammo in my 270.

I am wondering, how much your groups would open up if you used 56 grains of IMR4350.
