PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
I JUST GOT A SAVAGE MODEL 12 STAINLESS 308.I HAVENT SHOT IT YET BUT FILLED THE CLIP WITH SHELLS A COUPLE OF AND SOMETIMES WHEN I HAVE ONE IN THE CHAMBER AND AND I LIFT UP AND BACK ON THE BOLT TO PULL THE SHELL OUT IT WOLN'T GRAB IT. WHATS WRONG WITH IT??? HAS ANY ONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WONDERFULL. I DONT LIKE BUYING A NEW GUN AND IT ALREADY F*CKIN UP.

RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
I would first fire it and see if it does it. Not totally uncommon, with extractors like remington. But not so sure about the extractor on a savage.
|
RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
The extractors on the Savage are just like the Winchester push feed bolts. It's on the end of the right bolt lug.
The extractor should move left and right with a fair amount of pressure. If it does not it may not be popping over the rim of the cartridge like it should or it may be stuck so that it isn't even grabbing the rim at all. There is a spring and plunger under the extractor that push into a divit on the bottom side of the extractor. Make sure that they are both present and are where they are suppose to be and are not sticking. Just like all production guns a little flaw may slip by every now and then. |
RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
DO SAVAGES HAVE A WARENTY ON THEM AT ALL? I CHECKED THE EXTRACTER, AND BOTH THE PLUNGER AND THE SIDE SPRING MOVE AND ARE NOT STICKIN SO I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.. IM AM SO TICKED WITH THE GUN SO FAR AND I HAVNT EVEN HAD IT OUT YET TO SHOOT.THIS WEEKEND WILL BE ITS FIRST TIME AT THE RANGE

RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
I cant imagine they wouldnt have a warranty. Im sure they will make it good for you if there is a prob. Be thankful you arent tlaking about having probs with a new Remington...they would be lining up on here to talk junk about it.

Try contacting Savage and asking. I am sure their customer service department would be glad to help you.
|
RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
Why don't you take it back to where you bought it and have them look at it. They should be able to help you out. Unless you bought it at walmart or something.

RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
well i think i finally found out whats wrong. and no thanks to the service department. i guess the ammo i bought for it which was surpluss ammo had some shells that were too fat which made the bullet stick in the chamber and this is why some would eject and some would not.
now back to the service department. not to get onmy soap box or anything, but i feel they need to get more service techs, and ones that can speak english and know what a gun is. i was on the phone waiting for an hour(nojoke)before i got some girl i could not understandwho didnt know a thing about guns answer and ask what she can do for me, after about a 10 minute convo/ of what was wrong, she said hold on let me ask someone else i dont know what would be wrong. finally i got an answer that "the extractor might be bad or something". i started laughing and repeated what she had said. "somthing"? hmm i could have told you that. any ways she finally aggreed to send me a new extractor for it to see if that would work. so i am getting a new extractor which i dont need now but will keep anyways. ok well maybe i did get one my soap box... oooppps now the good points. i got some new ammo and shot the gun. shoot like a dream and its shooting less than one inchgroups easy. dont take this the wrong way for you savage lovers out there. its not the gun, the gun is great and i would recomend it to others, just the service there sucked. RE: PROBLEM WITH NEW SAVAGE..
I am glad you found out what the issue was. I own a Savage .308 and have owned a Model 110 .270 in the past. Never had to call the service department or take the gun back or anything like that. All they have ever been was tack driving rifles. Now the old ammo issue I have had happen in my remington 7400 and 742 but old surplus ammo or old factory load ammo can cause these type of issues.
