Locktite the screws and pick either, Never had a problem... I have been using talley rings and bases lately and most of their stuff is 2 piece ..

I've used either Redfield or Leupold solid (one-piece) bases on all my guns for years--- Never had any problems whatsoever. The one piece base bridges the action better than the 2-piece split bases for a little more rigidity. JMHO.

If the one pc. base has 4 screws its as good as 2 pc. mounts. If it only uses 3 as most do it is actually weaker than a 2 pc. The screws are the weak point in most quality bases.

The Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa 1500 and if it is a short action rifle you must use a two piece Remington 700 base. If it is a long action I believe the one piece will also fit.

However I absolutely hate a one piece base if it isn't needed (Semi autos and levers). Not only do you have only three 6-48 screws instead of four absorbing all of the recoil from the rifle and keeping the scope zeroed you have a big piece of steel that gets in the way of loading. I also think a one piece base ruins the asthetics of a bolt action rifle as well.

Has anyone actually had a one-piece base come loose because it had three mounting screws??
