Mauser model96 or 93 or 98

Do'es any body know how to tell what model they are. I just pick up a new one from the pawn shop in 7x57 the tag was marked model 96. I put on one of the stocks that I have for a model 96 and it fit but not perfect like the rest of the ones I have. ? did they make a madel 96 in 7x57 or is this a model 93 it was made in germary date 1931 thanks for any help. I was surprize that it shoots as good as my model 96 in 6.5

Probably either a 1893 or a 1895. The 1896 was produced only in 6.5x55, for all practical purposes. Pawnshops are notorious here for mismarking/misidentifing rifles.

Yup, there were quite a few model 96 7x57s.
I don't think they made any 93's that late.
One difference between a 93 and a 95/96 is that the bolt face on a 93 will be flat on the bottom while a 95 or 96 will have a round boltface.
