Thanks Rammer ...what are the main differences in the VX II and the VX III ..are the VXIIIs worth the difference for shots up to 300 yards?

RE: Advice on Scope for Tikka 338 ?

I'm not 100% sure on the differences between the VX II and VX IIIs. I wish that I would have put a 4-12x40 on my 7mm Rem Mag. I am more than likely going to sell my VX II and upgrade from the 3-9 to the 4-12. On game like animals, etc the 3-9 is good to 300 yards, but for target shooting, etc I like the 12 power a lil more. I'm not sure if you like to carry binos on your hunting expeditions, if you don't carry a set of binos I'd definately get a 4-12 or maybe even a lil more magnification.

RE: Advice on Scope for Tikka 338 ?

DD---I own more than a few Vari-X II's, and several M8-6X Leupolds. There is a definite reason for this. I also shoot a 338 Win Mag, and have a 3x9 AO Vari-X II on it. It has performed well for years, and has survived airplane baggage handlers in fine shape. Haven't touched the crosshair adjustments in a long, long time. They also show up used at gun shows and dealers periodically. Just MHO----
