It sounds as if you have time to plan . . . get a .44 Magnum.

PA redneck,

I'm a big fan of handgun hunting and do a fair amount of it. Of the 2 revolvers you have listed I would recommend you go with the .44 mag.

My personal choice is the Contender/Encore. It is the most versatile handgun/rifle system out there. You can put on lets say a super 14 7-30 Waters barrel for deer hunting and for practice you can install a .22 rimfire super 14 barrel and go after squirrels, tin cans and paper. The weight, balance and trigger would be the same. GREAT PRACTICE!!

One thing I’d like to also point out. A handgun is great fun to hunt with but is a very poor choice on moving game. If your looking to drive deer the handgun is your last choice.

Go with the 44 mag but make sure you practice shooting it.If you are recoil shy start with the 357 and work your way up. I'm sure you can handle the 44.You have plenty of time to get good with. Take your time and becareful.Your dad has good taste in guns. Ruger Redhawk

I think the Marlin guide gun sounds like a great idea, then you should get your dad to let you go shoot his pistols and see what you think. I enjoy handguns greatly, but it takes a lot of practice to become a really good pistol shot, it is much more difficult than shooting a rifle the same distance. If you are set on one of the blackhawks get the 44, practice with 44 specials, and work your way up to full-house cor-bon loads.

44 mag all the way. The 357 is ok for deer at close ranges but the 44 is more versital and effective.
