What ever gun you chose for her ,If you can get full size paper deer targets with the vitals on it,It will make a world of diffrence when she squeezes that shot off on a real deer. She will know exactly where to aim at without second thought. And any caliber you chose will bring that deer down on the spot or no more than 30 yrds from where it was standing.Thats if it is within her shooting range and I wouldn't think more than 150 yrds if only got 100yrd target range.

FINALLY! a fact orientated comment out of zrex. Couldnt resist zrex. I know exactly what your saying about the reduced loads[&:], I just dont get it. A 243 loaded at velocities it was meant to function at is better than a 06 thatsthrottled back. If you were going to use the 06 why not get full power loads but use the lighter bullets, 140's ect....by lightening the bullet you will reduce the recoil quite a bit, enough for most shooters to tolerate. I think that the 7mm08 is the logical choice here though. light recoil and plenty of factory loads. These others- 243, 6mm, 250savage, 257roberts, 260rem, 7mm08, 25-06,are all good though. I've seen first hand the 250savage and aside from limited ammo, for deer its outstanding.

Just my opinion and yep I know everyone has one. 7mm-08 then a 30-30 in that order. Maybe a 308 shooting 150's but I would probably start them of by loading some mild loads with the 150 30-30 bullets and see how they handle the recoil and go from there but then I've been "rolling my own" for 20 or so years and have the set up to do that

I have to throw in another vote fro the 260 Remington. Look at the ballistics and they will speak for themselves. I have 2 daughters and my wife have all taken deer with it. My youngest was 10 when she got hers. She is small framed and had no problem with the recoil. You would really be missing out if you didn't give this caliber a hard look.

There is nothing wrong with a 6mm or .243 for deer, with the 6mmholding a slight edgewhencomparingballistics. However, I like the .25 caliber rifles simply because they will handlebulletsin the 110 to 120 grain range.

I'd get the .243 barrel. Nothing wrong with the .243, those that say a bigger cartridge is needed are usually poor shots or don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.
Other option- buy a Lee Loader and start reloading 30-06. A 30-06 pushing a 150 gr. bullet 2400-2500 fps isn't going to recoil much, will shoot plenty flat for your hunting situation, and will have plenty of energy to kill a deer

.243 and lots of practise (of course that is with ANY firearm). I just recently bought a New England Firearms .243 for my wife the day before thanksgiving. She has never shot a high-powered rifle before and had never really hunted except just sitting on the stand with me. Now she loves it! She has already taken a deer with the rifle.
She is small only 5 foot tall and about 98 pounds and the recoil does not bother her at all. I am impressed with the caliber and rifle.
