Problems with my Savage 30-06..

I am having a hard tiume getting my bolt back after I fire a round off. I have to wiggle the bolt really hard. DO I need to replace my bolt or what? The gun is only about 3 years old.

RE: Problems with my Savage 30-06..

If this is a bolt action Savage, there are a number of things that could be causing the problem. Could be a simple and easily fixed or could be serious and needs attention by a gunsmith. Is the bolt hard to lift after firing?or hard to pull back after a normal bolt lift? Are you sure the safety button is at the full fire position - not partway? Is the safety button movement the same or has it changed? Are you sure that the rifle's action and chamber areclean? No lube buildup on the bolt raceways? It doesn't take much gritor even excesslubein the chamber to cause stiftness? Is the bolt hard to close on a new round? How about the ammo? New or old? Clean or dirty? What are you shooting? Factory or handloads? Lookclosely at the primers of the spent round, if there is any sign of cratered or flattened primers or bright metal on the rim?If so, have the gun checked by a smith. Look carefully at the spent brass, any signs of bulged brass near the case head or splits or cracks or scratches ontheneck, sholder orbody of the brass - if sohave it checked by a smith. Be sure to save the spent rounds for the smith to see.Remove the bolt and inspect for any roughness or rust or excess lube in the locking lugs. How about the bolt head? Is thereold lube buildup in the striker assembly inside of the bolt body? Have you changed anything on the rifle, added new scope base, removed and re-installed the stock, etc? It's unlikely that the bolt itself is the problem, more likely part of the problem. If the bolt is bad, yo will need to have he gun serviced by a smith as abolt change will require the headspace to be reset for the new bolt.

I think I solved the problem by switching ammo. I shot it again this weekend and I had no problems. Thanks for the info.
