westernfield m550k 12 gauge, help..
 

My father has loaned me a WesternField M550k 12 Gauge 2 3/4 inch shot gun. I have always been a bow hunter, till this year. I will be hunting deer at less than 75 yards in most places. Will this work?What do I need to know about the adjustable choke? Can I use rifled slugs? What are the first steps to having this gun checked out?

I think those shotguns were made for Mongomery Ward seveal years back. Some of them were made I THINK by Savage and some by Mossberg. I would take it to a good gunsmith because I don,t know a thing about hunting deer with a shotgun. I have never lived anywhere that shotgunning deer was popular. I know the work well, just never done it.
