Learned a lesson on scope rings
Well, I learned a valuable lesson. I feel a little stupid even admitting this, BUT.....
I have a Savage .308, model 11G (short action/wood stock) It has never been as accurate as my Savage .243 or as accurate as I thought it should be. In fact, I almost sold it last week. I was getting 2 and 1/2" groups at 100 yards using factory ammo. (Winchester CXP 150 grain) It has a Tasco World class 2.5-10X44 Scope. Here's the clincher, I mounted the scope using Simmons rings, (THE CHEAP ONES AT WAL-MART FOR $4.95) Jeez....I should have known better. I know...I know, why the cheap ones?!? Because I didn't think that they would make a difference. My gunsmithing friend said to change the rings and put on some good ones. "They'll make a wicked difference." So........I put on a pair of WEAVER QUAD LOCKS, (they look good, too) and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! I SHOT A 3 SHOT GROUP OFF THE HOOD OF MY TRUCK AND GOT A 1" GROUP AT 100 YARDS!! I can't wait to try it off the sand bags. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I never thought that rings could make that much of a difference. Now I know. Kev |
RE: Learned a lesson on scope rings
It always pay's to invest in quality rings with any scope. Good luck...;)
