New pistol: Walther P99 or Glock 21?
If anyone has experience with both of these guns, I'd really appreciate some input. I run a business out of my home and would like some extra protection. Right now I have a S&W 629 6 1/2" but it's just too big and I don't know much about pistols.
Thanks in advance. |
RE: New pistol: Walther P99 or Glock 21?
I have shot the P99 and it is a very nice shooter. The all stainless version is real hard for me to pick up the sights on if there is any glare from overhead. Another option would be the Springfield XD series of pistols. I have one and it by far outshoots any Glock in my hand (Glock grips don't fit everyone, and I'm one of them). So before you spend the money on a Glock, if thats what you decide on, make sure it fits your hand, or even better test fire one before you buy.
You really can't go wrong with either gun you mentioned tho! |

I like the fullsize glocks, they shoot well for me and i like the way they feel. I shoot a glock 20 (same gun, in the 10mm)

RE: New pistol: Walther P99 or Glock 21?
I carried the Glock 21 when I served on a SWAT Team. Never had any problems with it and I saw a guy drop one off of the third floor of a training tower onto conrete. The concrete showed more damage than the gun. (That is no exageration!)
I've never handled the Walther but I can't say that I've heard anything bad about those. There are a lot of guns out there that are more refined than the Glock but, as a range instructor one of the advantages of the Glock is that they are simple and almost anyone can pick one up and shoot it. |

I have a Glock 22. I like it and it is rediculously dependable but the grip angle took some getting used to. My friend has a p99. I instantly shot better with it and it feeld good. And now that the hi cap mags are available, the P99 makes alot of sense. When I bought my glock, the P99 hi caps were pretty scarce and about twice the price of the Glock hi caps.
Go to a local pistol range where you can rent both and see which one you like. I think both are exceptionaly dependable and light weight pistols and will both serve you well. The clincher would be which sits in the hand better. okcmco PS I like the loaded chamber indicator and decock on the |

Thanks again. It sounds like they're both solid weapons and it really comes down to which I'm more comfortable with.

Trust me, before you buy either one of those guns look at the Springfield XD series. Cheaper, just as reliable and plain fit your hand like a glove which is the most important part. At least try one. I was so surprised when i went to buy a new Glock that i ended up with the Springfield.
that being said, either of the guns you mention are good. I have had the luxury of shooting both. The P99 was a little bulkier then the glock. The glock was a little cheaper. Both shot good groups when i did my part. If you are stuck on these two guns, jsut buy the one that feels best. The reason you are buying it is to protect yourself. You have to feel comfortable carrying it, and holding it. No sense in buying something that doesn't fit you. |
