free country
my dad just called and told me that he was just up in colorado, and had some time to burn. went intoa sporting goods store and saw a Remington Model 700 Sendero chambered in the 7mm RUM. he wanted it and asked the salesman to ring it up. he asked for my dads drivers license and told him that he couldn't sell him the rifle because he wasn't a state resident. i thought this was a free country?

RE: free country
It is a free country in many ways, including the right to own firearms.
Certain states have certain laws. |
RE: free country
Many states have varying gunlaws and your local FFL holders should have the information. In most cases you can only buy long guns (rifles/shotguns) in a state other than the one you live in if that state pysically touches/borders the state of your residence. Another option would be for your dad to pay for that gun in CO and have it shipped to an FFL holder (dealer) in his state of residence. Most FFLs will do it for $25 or less. The selling dealer sends the gun too the FFL holder and then you dad picks up the gun from that holder, fills out the 4473 (the yellow ATF sheet) and ifhe passes the instant background (I assume most states are on this by now) the deal is done and he can carry the gun home.
It's easy really, RA |

RE: free country
Colorado may indeed have such a law, but I doubt it! Under current Federal law, you can purchase a long gun in any state where there is no local law against it, as long as you pass the "instant check".
I see you live in TX. If your father is from TX also, I suspect what happened to him was just another case of "Texan Abuse" by a citizen of Colorado. They love your money up there when you go elk hunting, but would prefer it if you'd just stay in TX and send them the money....... |
RE: free country
your blinded too if you think its free!
he did get in contact with a shop in texas and they will be having the rifle mailed to them. he will be able to purchase the gun in texas. |
