Browning A-Bolt or Winchester Model 70

I'm interested in a Browning A-Bolt ($800)or Winchester Model 70 ($685) in .243which will be used primarily for deer hunting.I have no idea about choosing a .243, vs. a .243WSM vs. a .243 WSSM, can you enlighten me? I'm leaning towards the .243 WSSM, for no apparent reason besides newfound popularity. What are the ammo price differences?

It'll be Composite w/ a Stainless Steel barrel and I'll be mounting a nice (Leupold or Zeiss)3-9x40 on it. These are the two I'm considering:

I considered both of those about 10 years ago, for what it's worth. Actually, it was the Remington Mountain Rifle, Winchester 70 and the Browning Stainless Stalker. After handling each of them there was no doubt I would go w/ the Browning. I ended up getting a Sako but that Browning felt SO natural in my hands I still want one! ;)

Cheers

I have never heard of a .243 WSM. If you think the .243 win is not powerful enough I would jump up to a .25-06 and then not worry about it. Too many claims of poor feeding right now to make me real comfortable in trying a super short mag.

Maybe that's why I was having a hard time finding the .243 WSM myself. Thought they made one, but I'm not an expert by any standards. Looks like I goofed.

I have an abolt medalion. It will shoot sub MOA. three shots at 100 yards can be traced by a dime.

As I understand it, the Medallian is the wood version, and the Stalker the Composite?

definetly get the browning. they are extremely accurate right out of the box and at the top of the list in looks. There is no comparison. The Browning is definetly worth the money.

Winchester introduced the .243 WSM in 2003....

For the past five years, Winchester Ammunition has been amazing hunters with the perfection of their Winchester Short Magnum line of ammunition. In 2000, they introduced the 300 WSM. In 2001, they introduced the .270 and 7mm WSM. In 2003, the .223 and .243 WSM was introduced. In 2003, the .25 WSM was introduced.
Here an A-bolt in .243WSM...

I would go with the Winchester Model 70 .243 WSM. Good luck.
