Browning Abolt question
 

What kind of upgrades have you guys done to your abolts? Mine shoots good but it could be better.Trigger work? It is a beautiful gun that my dad bought me 12 years ago. Micro Medallion 7mm08 Two years ago i took the bushnell banner off of it and put on a leupold vxII

Well, they do glass bed a little on them but its always not such a great job. You can reglass it for a tighter fit. Most triggers are pretty good, but can have it adjusted.

they sell a trigger spring kit at various internet sites like midway and brownells for about $20. rumored to be a good improvement for about 5 minutes time. most of the abolts I've seen are great shooters already, so I dont known about any other mods.

Mine shot really well from the box BUT the trigger was tough. Very Heavy. A friend of mine it a Browning whiz and he put a trigger spring kit in it and adjusted it for me. I may have to have him set it a little stiffer though because its about 1 1/2 lbs. Thats a bit light for up north hunting. With gloves you would never even feel the trigger before it went bang.

What does it shoot now from a good benchrest at 100 yds?

I don't have an A Bolt, but I had trigger work done on my Winchester and I would say it improved accuracy quite a bit, not so much from a solid bench rest, but definitely from field positions. I've read a little about bedding and floating and have read (maybe wrong?) that neither are a sure bet for improving accuracy. That's why I ask how it shoots now. You might be chasing very marginal returns if it's a good shooter already.

It shoots around 1 1/2 inch groups with 140 grain corelokts. I'm probally not going to touch it, I just know that my ruger shootsa lot better since I had the trigger lightend

Any time you have a rifle that doesn't shoot well there is a progression that you should take to help the situation.

1. Change ammo

2. Bedding

3. Change the barrel

4. Curse furiously

5. Throw rifle away
