Gun vise/rest

I reciently shot on the bench with a gun rest that had a foam and metal end on it to hold the butt and absorb the recoil of the gun. It had a "v" inthe front for the barrel and was adjustable in height and clamped to the bench. You could site in a big bore with a few shots because it absorbed all of the recoil and held the adjustment. It was not a gun vise that clamped to the gun. Does anybody know where I could find one? Is there any negitives in using one?
