RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
As a kid I brought home 80 percent of our meat with an old Winchester 22 Pump with the exposed hammer. There were no seasons to speak of. I shot Grouse, Pheasants Ducks and deer with that old gun. I even shot a couple pronhorns. Like I said, that was a different and simple time when we hunted for most of our meat. We usually couldn't afford to butcher a cow of pig as the income from them barely covered the fuel and seed for the next years crop. We did have lots of chickens though. My Mom raised several hunderd for eggs and meat. We never had to worry about eggs or milk.:D

I assume we are talking about surviving in a wilderness type of situation and not against someone trying to kill you.
Mine would be a bolt action .22 WMR. I could pack almost as much ammo as I could LR but the added velocity and jacketed bullets would be a better choice to have for larger animals should I need it. |
RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
I love the 22 Magnum. I had a Mossberg 22 Mag rifle. Great gun

RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
Good question. I think the Springfield M-6 Scout survival rifle/shotgun would be the ticket.Mine is 22 Hornet over a 410.
I forget who's making this Scout now.Mine is one of the early models made by Springield Armory.I would say it's 20-25 years old. Ruger Redhawk |
RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
I should have stated for complete survival.Since there would be no way to get any more ammo for ones gun in this sceneriio,i would carry a 22lr or mag.because of the amount of ammo one could carry and have many rounds to survive on. Thanks for all your repllies and most of you were thinking the same route as me. vangunsmith:)

RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
A good Bolt action in a rimfire caliber. Light, handy and you can carry ALOT of ammo. This gun would be to survive with. That means hitting game as tagets of oppurtunity. That means having your gun with you ALL THE TIME. And you are more likely to see squirrels, rabbits, possum, waterfowl etc, than ELK and black bear. A .22 will bring down a deer, or kill a turkey and ducks.
For a .22 LR rig-CZ ZKM-452 lux bolt with a Weaver 2-7x32 rimfire scope For a .22 mag rig. MArlin 882 bolt with leupold scope w/ adjustable objective. Winchester ammo (about 500 rounds for either.) |
RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
I believe CZ is making the scout now.

RE: I know what mine would be?/Do you?
Are you saying like your bush plane crashed or are you talking nuclear holocost?
If I had to surrvive in the wilderness, thats easy.I would take one Ruger single six in 22 LR and 22 WM.I could carry probaly 500 rounds of Both. If this is a military kind of senerio,Russian sks in 7.62x54.Then that way I could take my ammo from dead guys and keep getting new guns in the proccess. |
