Default .308 Hunting Ammo Suggestions

Hey guys,

I know there is no right answer but I guess getting some input from here is better than just walking into Bass Pro and selecting a box. I am looking for something that is going to be flat out to 200 yards.

Just about anything I put in my gun shoots well.

Suggestions please!

Thanks
Tom

P.S. I forgot to mention I will be heading to Bass Pro in about 3 hours so I need them now.

For whitetails, I really like the Hornady 150 grain SST. Started using it last year and had great results on the two deer I shot. Plus it's shooting 7/8" groups at 100 yards.

I agree with shepdogwv on the Remington core-lokt. Excellent game stopping bullet.

I have shot a lot of deer with the 308 but never any with a factory load. I load the 150 Grain Sierra Pro-Hunter in my 308. The Federal Blue Box ammo should work very well and is pretty cheap. I thing they load some with the Speer 150 grain Grand Slam. I have used these in my 06 with good results. I juust checked with Midway USA they have the Federal loaded with Grand Slams on sale for 7.85 a box. Those are good shells at a good price.

I also like the Grand Slams in the .308 Winchester. These bullets are relatively short for their weight, which means you don't have to seat them real deep in the case to make the C.O.L. of 2.8". Even the 180 Grand Slam works pretty well - with WW 748,I can safelyload thisone to 2740 fpsin my 24" .308. And the terminal peformance of these bullets is exceptional.

The only thing the Grand Slams lack is that streamlined shape of bullets like the Accubond or Scirocco. But within the effective range of this caliber, 250 to 300 yards, it is pretty much a moot point.

Save your money, and get the winchester powerpoints or remington corelocts. They'll do anything that more expensive, premium ammo will do inside of 200 yds.

The deer will never know the difference, only your wallet.

Also, get 150 gr.
