Barrel Break-in
Can someone explain the proper barrel break-in procedures on a new rifle?
Clean after every shot or two or three? Is it even necessary? What type of cleaning tools would you use? 1 piece rod or bore snake? What type of cleaning solvent? Sorry if this is a repeat topic. |

RE: Barrel Break-in
ORIGINAL: eldeguello It might make a difference with a benchrest rifle, I cannot say. However, for a HUNTING rifle, it is a total waste of time and ammo! Just clean your rifle well after each range session, and it will shoot like this (5 shots, 100 yards, Douglas Premium-grade barrel, 6mm/284, NO special treatment). |

RE: Barrel Break-in
barrel break in is purely opinion. I've never read any conclusive data about it.
FWIW it's my opinion that it's pure hooey. |
RE: Barrel Break-in

RE: Barrel Break-in
Don't even waste your time reading all this crap. I have read everything there is to read on this subject and have not learned a dang thing. The bottomline is, nobody knows and there is no conclusive evidence either way. So, I quit doing the barrel break-in thing and guess what? I havent noticed anything. But, if there is anything I have noticed it is this: My guns that I didnt break-in shoot as good and clean as good as the ones I took all that time to break-in. The new kimber 84m seems to shoot better with every shot between cleanings. Every time I reach for the cleaning kit I hesitate now because of that. I'm kind of afraid to mess it up. So after all the reading and following the proponents of break-in for many years I have tossed it out the window. It just hasnt been worth the time and trouble to either read all that stuff, or follow the break-in instruction.
Good Luck |
