amonia for copper fouling
A buddy of mine came over and was helping me with reloading when he noticed my barrel looked gold colored from across the room. Well, he had me get some stuff called ioso that is a paste that is supposed to remove fouling. It barely works. ANyway, I heard amonia gets rid of it, so I tried it and it does work better. But what kind of damage can this pose to my trusty rifle? I only used it for 2 passes then quickly followed it with rem-oil. Any opinions? EJ

RE: amonia for copper fouling
You did OK. All coppper removers[99%] are amonia based. Some are pretty strong, such as Barnes CR-10,Shooters Chioce,Sweets and a few more. These will not harm your bore,But,I would not leave them in the bore for long storage.
The bottled amonia, from the grocery stores,is strong, but it does work,it just has no anti-rust or bore lubes, built into it?Gun solvent, has it blended in,to prevent rust, after amonia strips it clean. |
