best bullet and weight for 270 whitetail hunting
 

What dose every one feel is the best bullet for deer and what weight bullet is the best for deer any where from 0-to 200yds? I was under the impression that when they devolped the 270win it was the 130grn bullet that would be best set up am I wrong or right???????

I suspect you're right....I used to use only the 130 grain in the .270 and then I wanted pass thrus and went to 150 grain bullets to help with that goal.

I really makes little difference.....but 150s for me.....I suspect that over 75 % of hunters using the 270 use 130 grain bullets.

You are right - almost every 130 grain bullet made in this caliber is designed with whitetail deer in mind. The Hornady Interlock/Interbond, Sierra Pro Hunter/Gameking, any Nosler bullet in this weight - all going to work well for you. And at distances of well beyond 200 yards if need be.

I took a good sze whitetail doe last year with a 130 grain factory federal with a nosler ballistic tip. She did not take a step after being shot. EJ

I've used a 270Win for over 30 years, on everything from moose, bear, caribou, sheep, goats anddeer. Have had good experiences with 150gr Nosler Partitions, standard core-lokts in both 130 and 150, and140grCore-Lokt Ultras. My newest 270 shoots them (140gr CLUs)very accurately. If you are just after deer, it is hard to beat the good old 270win. Perhaps you should try several different factory loads to determine which your gun shoots the best.

The 130 grain bullet from the 270 has good Sectional Density. About equal to the 165 grain bullet in 30 caliber. You should have no trouble with the 130 on game up to Elk. At that pioint I would opt for the 140 or 150. Many Elk have been taken with the factory loaded 130 grainers.

AS STATED BEFORE!!!!!!!;)

The most accurate load I've found for my .270 is the 130gr. Winchester Ballistic Tips. I stopped shooting them b/c I didn't care for the meat damage.

I have used everything from the Hornandy SST's to Remington Core Lockts.

This year I am using 140gr Winchester AccuBond's. I like their grouping and also like it b/c is a bonded bullet and is also in b/t a 130 and 150gr.

For deer hunting, any good 130gr. bullet out of a 270Win. should do just fine. Get a box of each, Remington Core-Lokts, Winchester Power Points,
and Federal PowerShoks, or Hornady ammo, go to the range, and see what shoots best with your rifle.

My .270 likes the Federal premium 130g boat tail soft point the best. I have tried the accubond 140, and the 150g ballistic tips, but this bullet groups the best, and I have never had to track yet. My farthest harvest was at 260 yds, and the doe dropped in her tracks.

what is the barrel twist rate?
