Ballistics charts???

I have been trying to find ballistics charts for 30-06s on the net and either the link doesn't work or it is someone selling software, does anyone have a working link with 30-06 ballistics?

Thanks vapodog, is there a huge difference between manufacturers in regards to ballistics if the grain and style of bullet are the same?

winchester also shows ballistics for thier ammo. I think federal does too.

Or you could try an online calculator if you know the FPS and BC.

This is the one I use and it seems to be pretty accurate.

big game info

Good luck,
Paul

Taz, I got some software, let me know what you need. Also if your good at working excel, I have a real accurate sheet but you need know the initial velocity and Bullistic Coef, which you can get on manufactures website. Drop me a line.

Guys all I really want to know is if a 700 ADL is dead on at 100 yards, where will it hit at 50, 150, 200,250? I do not know why but something is whacked here at work with me getting to remningtons or winchesters sites!!!!

RE: Ballistics charts???

No quickload, just Sierra software and an excel sheet from Stevepages (accuratereloading.com, that is real accurate.

Will be happy to do it for ya, but you got to give us some data. Bullet used, bullet wieght, scope hieght (very important for this to be accurate), initial velocity.

That is to funny because I realized I hadn't even mentioned the bullet weight!

I have heard great things about 165 grain silver tips, the other info I will have to provide Monday. Of course by then I may have already found out sighting the gun in.

Guys one more quick question, I will be hunting for a week this year where there is a possibility of not only taking white tail, but elk and black bear, what would be a good round to fit all three without a huge amount of overkill on the white tail?

bigcountry 09-16-2005 12:15 PM

RE: Ballistics charts???

I suggest the accubonds. And 165 to 180gr at that.

RE: Ballistics charts???

Running infinity, with 168gr Silvertip winchester and assuming 2800fps, here is what i got with 100 yards zero with 1.5" scope hieght.

Distance Path Velocity
0 -1.5" 2800
100 0 2607
200 -3.62" 2423
300 -13.17" 2246
400 -29.62" 2077
500 -54.15" 1915

Go to theFederal cartridge site and download their interactive ballistic tables. It takes into account temperature, windage, elevation, and different sight indistances. The other cool thing is you can print out the stats on your cartridge in landscape mode, cutout just the table, and shipping tape it to your stock for your trip.Covering the piece of paper with shipping tape pretty much water proofs it too. You will have bullet drop as well as windage results right where you need them. It would be a shame to makea mistake onsomething you can prepare for ahead of time. The only down side is that you eliminated a lot of the excuses as to why you missed.;)

Oh yeah, I second the Accubond vote, especially in 180 gr.

RE: Ballistics charts???

Ballistics charts are useless unless you have a chronograph to measure the true velocity. Ballistics printed on ammo boxes tend to be optimistic and/or only good for the test gun that was used to get those numbers.

With a typical load zeroed at 100 yards, here's a pretty rough estimate of your trajectory assuming that you are shooting at ~2800 fps give or take.

50 yards -1"
100 yards 0
200 yards -4"
300 yards -14"

The highpower rule of thumb is: zeroed at 100...
up 2 minutes to 200
up 3minutes from 200 to 300

Remember this for most non magnum cartridges and you'll be pretty close.

RE: Ballistics charts???

Be aware that trajectory charts are only a rough estimate of point of impact.Even if you have chronographed your rifle and know the exact velocity for that load in your rifle, the charts could easily be out enough to make the difference between a clean kill and a miss or worse yet a wounded animal.

Thanks for all the info guys, I bought it Friday, right now I can tell you it shoots sweet and straight, the figures you all have posted seem about right, but I have not properly bench shot it yet, hopefully I will find out today or tomorrow. Thanks for all the help.

RE: Ballistics charts???

As you probably know, the ONLY way to know where YOUR gun shoots a particular bullet at a particular distance is to shoot it at thosedistances (100, 200, 300, etc.). The publishedcharts are just the results of mathmatical formulas. The bullet that shoots the most accurately from your gun is the one to use, anything from Rem core-lokts, Win Power Points andon up the price scale will cleanly take the animals you mentioned. Don't get hung up on the "premium" bullet hype. Hundreds of thousands of elk, bear and deer have been taken with standard bullet/loads. Bullet placement trumps bullet construction every time.
