12 ga Shotgun...100yd group

Spent the day at the range yesterday shooting my Savage muzzleloader.I also had my Savage 210 12ga shotgun along.

Due to the amount of recoilthe shotgunproduces I usually don't shoot that gun until I am done with everything else at the range. This usually means I am tired and my shooting is already suffering. Add to that the fact that I am usually pressed for time and that means I don't leave enough time for the barrel to properly cool. (This gun strings quickly when it heats up).

However I usually try to shoot at least one group with the 12ga when I can.

Under the above circumstances I was pretty happy with the group below after I shot it. This will be my "Other Savage" for deer season....

100 yds Rem Core Lokt 385gr

BTW....shot #1... from a cold barrel, is the one low and dead center.... shot #2... was fired before I thought about the barrel being hot, and is the one top left..... shot #3 I remembered to let the barrel the cool, it was just a bit warmer than the barrel was for the first shot. Of course that one landed in the middle. One of these days I'll take the time to get a real "cold barrel" group.

Looks good Jag!
hezze, the vitals are in an 8" circle on a deer. If you can put all your shots
in an 8"pie plate @ 100yds, you can killed a deer!

yeah that should definately take care of a deer. you shouldn't have to worry about a group though.... it only takes one shot in most cases. ;)

Thanks Guys,

Keep in mind these shots are made from a good benchrest. My offhand skills would be nowhere near that level.
The reason for shooting the group is only to guarantee consistency. I want to make surethe guncan make those shots over and over. That way I know how much to add to my expected group size to accomidate for the guns accuracy.

Standing offhand Ithink I would be pretty confidentup to 75yds with this gun. In most cases I find an opportunity to sit, kneel, or find some form of rest when shooting at deer. In those cases I would be confident out to 100yds. Past that range I would only take a shot if I had agreat rest and little or no wind. The gun is accurate out to 150yds+, just not sure I am....

That's excellent for a shotgun slug group. Looks like anything out to 100 yards is gonna get ventilated. Good luck with your season.
