Scope Choices...

I'm looking for a decent scope that won't break the bank. I have a cheap scope I bought like 8 years ago (Simmons -- don't laugh). Looking to spend under $200 if possible on something that can give me decent reliability! anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

RE: Scope Choices...

Im in the same boat as you Mike, i am in the market for a new scope and want a quality, dependable scope for under 200 dollars.
I have it narrowed down to 2
The Nikon Buckmasters 3x9-40 Matte finish, cost 199.95
The Leupold Rifleman 3x9-40 Matte finish, also 199.95,

They are both from very respectable optics manufactures and have great warranties
I have looked through the Nikon and it is really clear plus they redisgned it for this year with all kinds of new features usually only seen in high dollar scopes. And what more can i say about the Leupold, i mean its a Leupold one of the best scopes on the market for under 200.00

I really dont know which one to choose, but i do know it is going to be one of the two

Hope i helped make your decision a little easier.

Dave

I just bought a Leupold VX-1 3-9-40m for my son's 30-06. I like the way they stand behind their product. I also think the optics are very crisp and clear. I spent a little over $200 at $223.

I personally would place (in no particular order) these scope before the entry level leupold rifleman in the $200 range!
Nikon Buckmaster
Bushnell Elite 3200
Burris FF II
Simmons Aetec

Mike get your hands on some and see what stands out to your eye. I can tell you having owned4 elite's they have performed very well andnever had a problem.HoweverI am sure others will say the same thing about theabove mentioned.

Good Luck

I've always had good luck w/ Leupold. And, if for some reason something happens, they back their products 100%, although so do some other manufacturers.

There are a number of scopes that retail for under $200 that have good optics. I will list them in no particular order. Take a look at them any you make the call yourself as to what impresses you.
Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40 $199
Bushnell Legend 3-9X40 $149
Burris Fullfield II 3-9X40 $199
Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40 $189
Simmons Aetec 2.8-10X44 $179

These prices are from the Cabela's catalog. You can find all of the above for less if you do a search on the internet. The one in my opinion that may be the best buy is the Bushnell Legend. It has fully multicoated optics and a constant 3.5" of eye relief. It doesn't have the rainguard feature of the Elite 3200 series. The 3200 series is multicoated not fully multicoated. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of the above and be satisified haveing a $200 budget.

Id suggest the Burris Fullfield 2 in 3-9x40. It is a pretty nice scope and has the ballistic plex reticle to compensate for bullet drop in any caliber, and right now they are offering a pair of 8x32 binoculars free with the purchase of the scope. I have two and love them both, and the 3-9 sells for right at 200 bucks.

RE: Scope Choices...

i just got a burris fullfield II. i cant say a whole lot since i just got it mounted a few minutes ago and now my gun has decided to make me angry. i did a lot of checking out and i think it was the best choice for me as i was in the same place as you are. i got mine for $150 off of ebay and i am pleased with it even though i have not fired a shot off with the new scope yet because my gun has decided to act up. i narrowed it down to the sightron s2 and the burris fullfield II and the price of the burris i found plus the ballistiplex reticle made me get a burrisFF II.

I have a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40, and I love it. I don't remember what it cost, but I think it was right around the $200 range. Good luck!
