Scope Question

I have a Bushnell scope that won't adjust. It is like it is stuck in the same spot. Years before I have been able to adjust it. Is there a way to fix it or do I have to buy a new one?

If you have access to a bore collimator (your local gunsmith should have one), put it in and then watch the reticle of the scope as you turn the adjustment dials-this will tell you if the reticle is moving or not. If it is not, send it to Bushnell and have them fix it, which they certainly can, for a nominal fee at most. Some makerswould fix it free. This should cost a lot less than a new scope!

I've had this happen a couple of times. On more than one occasion, the problem was caused by a too-tight scope-mount ring in just the wrong place on the outside of the scope tube, which "froze" the reticle adjustment tube in one spot inside the tube. This seems to happen with aluminum scope tubes on lower-priced scopes more than with steel ones. Seems the tubes are thinner.

RE: Scope Question

If the scope is a Bushnell Sportview, remove it from the rifle. Walk to the nearest trash can. Hold the scope about 24" above the can. Now open your hand and let it fall. Some of the higher end Bushnell scopes are worth having - the new 3200/4200 Elite scopes are pretty good. But the old Sportview isn't worthy of even being on a .22 LR.
