Help with gun selection Rem 700 LSS
Its between 5 guns...help me decide. Whatever gun I get I will have the action glass bedded and barrel free floated. Here they are:
1.Rem M700 Mountain LSS 30-06-$525.00
2. Mannlichaer-Schoenauer M1950 30-06 W/ weaver 4X $995.00
3. CZ 550 30-06-$625.00
4. Colt-30-06 (can't remember model) $725.00
5. Rem M700 deluxe Custom 30-06-$695.00Looks like the barrel
has been swapped out-wood is just okay, nothing to write home about.
WILDCARD-Tikka T-3 laminated Stainless in 30-06-$700.00
The Mannlicher is the prettiest of the 5 followed by the M700 LSS.

RE: Help with gun selection Rem 700 LSS
I would, and did, go with a Rem. 700 LSS Mountain rifle (stainless with laminated stock), though mine is for the 270Win.
It has proven to be a very accurate rifle also without having to do anything to it other than to top it off with a Leupold 2-7x scope.
There's another fella' has posted here several times, goes by the name of FirstShot. He got one in 7mm-08. Last I recall reading all he did with his was to lighten the trigger pull some, and that's it.
He's posted some targets, and his rifle appears to be doing very well also.

Not that I'm very recoil sensitive, but the Rem Mtn LSS I have been looking at is 30-06. Do you think the recoil will take away from the positive aspects of the gun? I really want 30-06 but I think the Mtn Rifle is probably at it's best in 260, 270, 7mm-08.

Unless you are specifically looking for a light weight mountian rifle, take a look at the Rem 700 LSS. It's a stainless laminate just like the Mtn LSS but It's about 1Lb heavier comes with the Remingtons new R3 recoil pad. May be a little better at handling 30-06 recoil.
Like Virginia7 said, my 7mm-08 Mtn LSS shoots everything I've tried in it, all handloads,MOA orbetter (except Nosler BT's) and the only thing I've done to it is adjust the trigger pull. The point is, if you wind up getting a Rem 700, don't get in too big of a hurry glassing the action and freefloating the barrel. See how it shoots first. When I got my Mtn LSS I was planning to do the same thing. Turns out it would have been a waste of money.
Just courious about your 30-06 choice. Seems like you're prety set on the old Odd 6. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent round. I used to have a BAR in 30-06. I got tired of chasing brass at the range and I wanted something in a short action stainless laminate that would be agood bit lighter, would still have plenty of punch atmedium/long ranges and that I didn't have to baby so much in the woods. Yea, the BAR was just beautiful. But I was always worried about getting it scratched up, dirty or whatever. Don't have to worryabout that with the stainless laminate and to me the 7mm-08 is the perfect combination of low recoil and more than adequate power.
