World Armys Top Rifles
Who do you think makes the best all around Infantry rifle? I know the brits is crap, accurate but prone to jamming.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
IMO the .223 we use today is it.....yea I know they don't call it the .223 but that's what it is. The ammo is light weight so a man can carry lots of rounds and the rifles that shoot them can shoot reasonably accurate and reliability is high.
If I'd change anything it'd be to go to the 6 X 45 in the same rifle. |
RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I am just glad I am done with them.:DDon't know who makes the best one now but the Garand was a top choice.

The M14 is probably the best all around choice. You can make arguements against it, but if you could only choose one, then I think that would be it.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
Like James said I am glad I don't have to use one for a living any more.My vote also goes to the M-14 .But the Garand is hard to beat.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
m14 although I never carried one in a hostile zone. It had some problems but not anything like the mattel toy has. I would like to see something like it scaled down a skosh in the SPS round. Dream on , Biscuit.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I, for one, would have no problem going to combat with an M16A2. It's a fine rifle that gets the job done. Relatively light weight, not too big, light ammo (therefore lots of it), very accurate even at high rates of fire (thanks in no small part to the low recoil). Itis also a very reliable rifle even in field conditions if you take care of it properly, which isn't hardifyou have at least two firing neurons under your brain bucket.Iwas issued a total of four different A2's whileI can in theCorps ranging in condition from almost new to beat tohell, and all functioned perfectly no matter howmuch abuse I put them through (unlessI was shooting those God-forsaken blanks[:@]).

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
The Diemaco C7A1 (what else..I AM CANADIAN )...followed by the M16A2, HK G36 ,M14 and even the AKM's (love 'em or hate 'em they aren't pretty but will work through just about anything)

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
For what it is the AK is probably the best battle rifle design ever. The M16 makes a great door stop. I also believe using a non-expanding varmint cartridge to attempt to kill humans is not the best course of action.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
Springfield M-14..

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
My top sixpicks
1. M1 Grande 2. M16 3. 50 cal BMG 4. M4 Carbine w/ grenade launcher 5. 30-06 Enfield 6. 30mm recoilless tank rifle |
RE: World Armys Top Rifles
the M4 is great because of its adjustability and light wieght. the M14 because of its firepower, fast cycle rate and accuracy. mcmillan 50 BMG cause well its the gun used in the longest kill shot.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I carried the M-16 for a while and never had any problems with it jamming. With that said and having experience with the M-16, M-14, AK-47/AKMand M-1D, if my life was depending on it I would choose the M-14. The AK may be simple to maintain, but I was never impressed with it's accuracy.
If I had my choice of any weapon, I would take the M-60E3, even though it isn't a production infantry weapon/rifle. |
RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I am currently in Iraq and I carry an M4. I can't complain...it is light and handy, easy to maintain, and I have not had any serious malfunctions. Ideally, though, I think the longer M16A2 chambered for 308 would be nicer. But I guess that would not have any advantage over the M14...so my final answer is M14, but my M4 is doing well for me here.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
For the time I have to say Mosin Nagant rifles were deffinately one of the best bolt guns ever to be used as and infantry rifle. asfar as more current and/or more modern semi auto infantry rifles go Id have to say the M-14 was deffinately the best rifle ever.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I think the k98k may trump the 91/30 in it's design and functionality. It probably was the most superb bolt rifle field as standard issue by any military.
|
RE: World Armys Top Rifles
Depends on what it was being used for. The Diemaco C8 CQB is tough to beat for close quarters work 9 7/8" heavy hammer forged barrel, lightweight, quick to point and very accurate and bonded bullets seem to work well. If I was looking at longer range work I would lean towards the m-14 for more long range punch.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
hehehe....another Canuck eh !.....I was thinking of the C8 as well but it does not fill the outdoor role as well (especially at long distances).Therefor my vote still goes to the C7 flattop with Elcan optics. The ol' FN/FAL was a beast but nice to shoot with.....I unofficially "qualified"(shot with a group of marksmen & instructors from the PPCLI )at 200 meters with it when I was 17....loved every minute of it....:):)

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I am currently carrying a M4 over here in Iraq. I use to badmouth the M16/M4 design, but I have since been in some heavy firefights, and my M4 never let me down. the adjustability of the stock is great with the body armor we wear. As long as you clean it regularly, like every soldier should, there arent any problems. My vote would have to be for the M4.

RE: World Armys Top Rifles
I used a M14 and M16. I liked the M14 better for use, but the M16 was easier to hump around with - and most of the time I was carrying, not using, the damn thing.
