what bullet
A neighbor came over a little bit ago and he has booked a Caribou hunt in Quebec. He has a 7MM Rem mag and wants me to make him ammo for the trip. He left the selection to me as I have to sight in and test the loads for him.
What bullet should I use? I'd like to test fire at least three kinds since I've never fired his gun before. |
RE: what bullet
"If" it was my 7 mag., it would get fed 150 NP's... Experience has shown me they work very well on that size animial..

RE: what bullet
I would think a premium bullet with a high b.c. Maybe a 140gr tsxbt or one of the polymer tipped bonded cores in 150-154gr.

RE: what bullet
Most any good 150 gr. softpoint should work famously. I would try the 150 Swift Scirocco or the 160 Accubond.

RE: what bullet
I've only killed 9 or 10 caribou, and am no authority on bullets. Caribou are not that tough, IMO, and can be cleanly taken by most "deer" bullets. I killed mine with factory Rem core-lokts, but would use 150gr NPs if I were to go again (only because they are quite accurate in my 270). For the 7Mag, I suspect any good 160gr bullet would do well. I saw lots of caribou taken with 7 mags, again using core-lokts, so any of the better bullets available today would be "gravy".

RE: what bullet
Being that shots could be long and caribou aren't known for being a tough animal to put down I would look at all of the polymer tipped and boat tail bullets in 140 and 150 grains.
Ballistic tip, accubond, SST, interbond, Scirocco, Sierra game king, and Nosler solid base. |
RE: what bullet
we sure have a lot of support for Nosler Partitions.....that'll be one of my bullets to try. I also think Hornady's interlock about 154 rains should be tried.....one more now...........

RE: what bullet
The 140gr accubond or the 140gr tsx would be fine choices.
|
RE: what bullet
I would go with a 150 gr. Nosler Partition. Good luck.
