RE: what bullet
Awe come on Vap, you know a bou aint nuttin butta 400# deer and aren't NEARLY as tough as an elk or even a highland mulie. That can only mean one thing... lol you know my pick... the TSX Barnes. Why not "go hot" and put him in some 120s? If you aren't sold on em yet (and shame on you if you aren't! :D ) then stoke him up some 140s.
At least with fullboat 120s he'll be close enough too on all the way out too 300yds that he wont have to worry about much. Sounds like you are gonna do everything but pull the trigger on the animal for him. I think he should at least practice a box or two before heading for the tundra! RA |
RE: what bullet
Red, this guy offered me $150 to deliver him his own rifle back with 50 rounds of ammo for this hunt. There's no doubt that he'll shoot at least twenty before he goes.
I've heard a lot of good about the Barnes.....possibly that's the third candidate for the testing. Wish I could get this kind of offer every day..... |
RE: what bullet
Vapodog
Nosler Partitions - speak for themselves 154 Hdy Interlock - standard bullet Maybe you should try a bonded bullet as your third test. The 140 Accubonds are extremely accurate in my 7mm-08 and many others have also attested to the accuracy of the Accubonds in general. The 7mm Accubonds come in 140 and 160 Grn varieties. firstshot ---------------------------------- Make your first shot count! |

ORIGINAL: firstshot Vapodog Nosler Partitions - speak for themselves 154 Hdy Interlock - standard bullet Maybe you should try a bonded bullet as your third test. I was considering sciroccos.....but after all the complaints about both accuracy and fouling I decided not to. The A-Frames are simply not needed for Caribou.... If it was a moose hunt I'd look to Northforks, TBBCs and A-Frames. I just don't have that kind of respect for caribou and it's in a country that don't have the big bad bears as well. |
RE: what bullet
ORIGINAL: Vapodog we sure have a lot of support for Nosler Partitions.....that'll be one of my bullets to try. I also think Hornady's interlock about 154 rains should be tried.....one more now........... |
RE: what bullet
Does your friend want you to go on the hunt and kill the game for him also?? First off with all the choices of bullet weights to go through, the gun might not shoot some and shoot others! you could load,a few of these and a few of those and test shoot them, for days for you find a load that would be great for his barrel.Load up some bullets around the 150-160 gr area that you like and MAKE HIM sight it in! Thats a lot to ask of a person, let alone people shoot guns different and he should be the one familiar with his gun not YOU!So,i would just load up his bullets, and bore sight it,and let him do it,but thats just me. Does he borrow your lawn mower then want you to mow his lawn as well??Sounds like the friendship is one sided and he doesn,t know much about hunting IMHO. vangunsmith

RE: what bullet
Caribou, 7mmMag, easy, 140gr accubonds, maybe 160gr. It ain't hard to knock down a caribou.

RE: what bullet
140 or 150 gr. Nosler Partitions. There isn't a better all around bulleet for big game.
