they ahve an article on the 5 calibers " you should have " they had the

7mm-08rem, 270win, 30-06sprg, 300win mag, and the 450marlin..

seems that the 450marlin is catching on.

Gosh, if you have a 7X57mm and handload, it takes the place of the 7/08, .270 Win AND .30/'06. Then, all you need is a .338 Win., and a .416 Rigby!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

I hve owned the 7mm-08 but now own none of these cartridges. Most of the people I hunt with own 7mm mags for almost all their hunting with a few owning 300 magnums of some sort or a 338.None of us has ever found it necessary to own any of these cartridges in order to successs fully take big game.I myself find that my 7mmstw and 300 ultra mag are perfectly suited for any big game I hunt.

First, if you have an 06, why would you need a 300 winmag or the 270? or vice versa, while performance will vary on trajectory all three will take any game on the NA continent with the exception maybe of a angry grizzly, the big bore lever gun has it's place in the thick woods and the 7mm08 is a nice easy recoiling cartridge try to find a ready supply of ammo without paying top dollar. As anyone will tell you shot placement and terminal performance of the bullet has more effect than the caliber used.

Exactly eldegullo, the 7mm-08, .270, and the 30-06 are all pretty much as effective as the other one. The 300mag has a bit more range, but one of thoes, a .338mag., and a .410 or the like will take any game on the planet.

I'm suprised they didn't mention the .22 which is more usefull than any of the others.

i still think there is too much redundancy. i can see the light recoling shorter range 7mm-08, then any one of the middle 3, and i can see the bigbore, though i might go with the 45-70 because i dont know if ruger's model 1 comes in 450marlin, and 45-70 has this "je ne sais quai"
