7mm 08

How does everyone like there 7mm 08?I've heard really good things about em. My question is, are they a good long range gun? Would i be better off to get a 30.06? I will not be making hardly any shots over 300 yards.

7mm08 will be fine at 300 yards, practice at that distance if you are going to shoot that far!

If whitetail deer is the target the 7-08 will do as well as any cartridge you can shoot.....including the bigger magnums and the .30-06.

Trying to slip a .243 in on us eh Z!?
I agree that the .243/6MM is a great minimum deer caliber, but a 7MM-08 it is not! The 7MM-08 is about as ideal a deer caliber as you could ever get!

For deer the 7MM-08 is an awesome round. Stick with the bullets in the 139-145 gr. range and you will do well on deer sized game. If you plan on throwing elk or some other larger game into the picture choose the 30-06 as there is a larger supply of ammo available for the large sized game. The 7MM-08 can take elk but it isn't ideal by any means.

For deer you cant go wrong. I dont know if you reload if not try the Federal solid base boattail 140 gr. or the Hornady lite mag. btsp 139 gr. I have had excellent luck with both the Federal's seem to be A little more accurate. chad

I'm going to agree with nearly everyone else and say you can't go wrong with the 7mm-08. It's inherently accurate which comes from it's .308 lineage. It's hot enough to provide all the knockdown power you'll ever need on any deer that walks. And finally, the recoil is light enough that even recoil sensitive people shoot it with little concern.
I've shot a whole bunch of deer over the last 10 years with my Browning Stainless in this caliber and never had to shoot a deer twice.
