Which New Toy

Trying to make up mind on which new rifle to buy. Keep in mind I have many .30 caliber rifles along with both larger and smaller rifles. So which should it be
Winchester model 70 feather weight in .300WSM OR
Remington model 7 SS in .300 short UM.
I just like these two guns anyone delt with these rifles in these calibers yet??
Thanks

RE: Which New Toy

well if you want a 30cal. short magnum..
i would go with the 300WSM. just because there are alot more people buying th 300WSM's and they will last alot longer than the 300SAUM.
if you have alot of 30 calibers. what about the 270WSM? or wait till 2003 to see if they come out with the 35WSM and the 6.5WSM?

My choice would be the Model Seven! I own several 7's and they are hard to beat...

My answer to this question would be to ask you another question. What do you expect this new rifle to do that one of the many other 30 caliber rifles or other rifles that you already own won't do?

dont worry i always try to get people to handgun hunt. i think the sport needs more people in it. its is nice though, its not extremly long range but is a nice balance between the rifle and bow. and while a bow might be harder to shoot. the deer in my neck of the woods will walk through my backyard up till the start of gun season

Well got the new toy. Went with the model 70 featherweight .300wsm. Heres the bad news. Got the gun home took it out of box to place mounts rings and scope on it. Was looking it over and worked the bolt and tried to place rifle on safe. And surprise tha safty wouldnt move at all. Called winchester and its on its way to winchester for repair. Cant beleave the factory let a gun ship out with the safty not working. Well lets see how long it takes to get it back. Also I dont think the .300WSM will do anything that several of my other guns wont do I just wanted a pretty new toy,LOL

what about the micro hunter from brwoning or any of the brwoning's in the new WSM's???? i would go with a 270WSM as a good whitetail caliber. just look at the ballistics of the 130gr. bullet!
but like greg with 7mm mag said.. i am gonna wait to see if they do come out with the 358WSm or the 338WSM

No offense was intended 3DNWV, I was just trying to point out that all the new rounds that have been brought out in the last few years won't do anything different that all the old rounds can't do as well. I certainly respect the desire for new toys though. I get a bad case of it once a year or so.

I know I have several of the new calibers or have tried them but it seems like always go to my beat up Ruger 77 tang safty 30-06. Just keeps making one shot kills. But boy is that 70 featherweight pretty now if they can just get it to work right.
