Rem Oil?

On an 870, Remington says to use Rem Oil to clean and to oilthe trigger assembly (when you remove it from the gun). What I am wondering is does anyone use the Rem Oil or do you just use the Outers/Hoppes gun oil?

Remington is just saying to use rem oil because they sell it. Just use whatever you have, hoppes, outers, or rem oil. I find rem oil and hoppes very similar so whatever you have will work. Id personally clean it with hoppes #9 first then go over that with a little oil to prevent rust and lubricate.

Texhookem is correct. Just use any light machine or gun oil - it will do fine.

can't speak for the 870, but i own an 1187 (sem-auto). first few months i lubed the mechanism down with hoppes, and the feed would jam 2-3 times per every hundred rounds. switched to rem oil, and i never have had a problem since.

I use Remoil on all of our 870's and 1187's at work. Never had issues

Remoil is a really light oil but what makes it work really well is the teflon added to it.

RE: Rem Oil?

I took a browning pistol into a place in Festus Missouri. It's run by some guys that used to work for Browning and they said that all they ever use if Rem-oil. Apparently the Hoppe's oil will gum up when cold, especially when there is too much applied to the gun. For a trigger assembly or anything in the action, I would definitely use Rem-oil.
