OK, A wildcat cartridge is a cartridge that is "NOT" made by any major manufactorer!! Not mass produced. People take different standard cartridges and change the angles of the shoulders,or necks, ect.to increase volume, vel.ect to inhance the campabilites of a certain shell. For instance a standard 30-06,to a ackley 06.Its the same case with a different shoulder design to increase pressures, which increases velocity with the same grain bullet. This is what a wildcat cartridge is and a lot of modern cartriges that are of the norm now days at one time were wildcats. For example The 22-250 was orginally based off of the 250 Savage cart,or they also called it the 250-300 in the Savage leaver action rifle. So thats what a wildcat cartridge is. vangusnmith. There are a lot on the market now days. Another on is the 25-06 was a wildcat,it was designed off he 30-06. So hope i helped you. vangunsmith
