difference between a couple grains

i was just wondering how much of a difference would say like 5grains make? .22lr for example some hollow points are 31 grains, and some may be 36gr. Does it really make all the much of a difference?

Not that I ever noticed. I have not hunted much with the 22 rimfire for several years but I could really never see much difference.

In your example this would be about 14% difference in
bullet weight which to me could be significant depending
on what it's being used for (squirrels or rabbits as compared
to say coons or medium sized varmints).
Percentage wise thats about the same as the difference
in the 150 gr vs. 170 gr. bullets, common 30-30 rounds.
There are cartridge energy tables that wouldbe specific.
As is always pointed out though, if you hit game in the
right spot they usuallywon't know the difference.

Also there could be a difference in the shape and size of the hollow point. (that can affect the balance of the bullet) Also the amount of berring surface on the rifleing can be different.

So, there lots of variables other than a few grains of weight.

Best thing is, shoot some of each, and see what works best in your firearm.
