Thanks

Trash it, and get a new barrel.

Wow.
Glad you weren't hurt.

I wouldn't trust it again either.

New barrel time. The same thing happened to a barrel on my shotgun. I loaned it out and thats the way it came back. I thought about cutting it off but I didn't trust it anymore either. Mine was a Savage shotgun.

Everybody that shoots shotgun will do it sooner or later. Fortunatly, mine was when I was 6 and was using a 410 as a walking stick and fired it off. Boy, was that ugly.

You can cut it down to 18.5" and try to sell on ebay as a home defense barrel. I bet you can get a buyer. Just be honest with what happened. A fella should be able to few down the barrel and see any visible bulges or push a tight cleaning rod with patches down and feel for any place in the barrelwhere there is a bulge. If it only happened at the tip, I doubt there is any problems near the breech. If the object that was in the barrel real deep, it would have probably blown a hole in the side of the barrel.

Have it cut off as long as possible after inspection, but if necessary cut it to the legal min lenght. No less than 18" you will still be able to shoot slugs in it,for shotgun shells reach there top vel around 18" anyway.you will be suprized how accurate it still will shoot with shot as well, try it. vangunsmith

I'd cut it off and test some slugs in it.....no reason to toss it unless the length is unacceptable to you. It must however be at least 18 1/2"...

You can have new chokes installed as well.....

Over the years i've cut a lot of them off for customers for all kinds of reasons. There's nothing wrong with cutting them off but you will loose the choke when you do so.

They still make a great short range bbl., just pattern it with different loads and see what it will do.
