Wincester or Marlin

Would like to get a pair of guns: 22LR and .30-.30. I'm not a millionaire and have narrowed it down to the 94 Ranger and 9422 or a pair of Marlin's I found at Wal-mart. I like the Winchesters, but the price of the 22 LR is a little high. The 30-30's are both about $300. What do you all think as far as the quality of ech brand? Thanks!

In my opininion the marlins are probably better guns (easier to scope), But I love the winchester. accuracy is the same. Other than the scope issue it comes down to your personal choice. Money looks etc.
Give me a winchester any day of the week !

Unless you just want a matched pair I'd suggest
the Henry 22lr. It's a very good rifle and mounting
a scope is no problem. The H001 is right at $200.00.
Again, very good rifle.
I've also got the Win 30-30. Despite the angle eject
issue I have a 4x scope mounted over the receiver no
problem.

I'm a big Winchester fan but on this score I'd get the Marlin.

My personal choice is Marlin...but regardless of which company, if you want to save some money, consider buying a used rifle. Millions of these rifles have been manufactured in the last 100+ years, and many, many of them are available online or at a local gun or pawn shop.

True, some of them can be pretty beat up, but there are still plenty of nice examples floating around.

Here in the DFW area, you can pay as little as $175 for a nice used Marlin...with a scope.

Wow, this debate is probably 100 years old! ;)

I would go with Marlin. Their 30-30's are stronger and easier to scope (I ought to know, I got one!). But, Winchesters have the legendary "vibe" factor going for them and the more smoother handling.
