The only thing wrong with "just removeing the bolts" is, if you have numerous rifles of the same brand, getting all the bolts back in the "right action" is a real pain!!

I never had a problem. All the bolts I've seen have the S/N or the last few digets of the S/N marked on the bolt.I store most of my rifles without the bolts in them.. I wipe the boltdown ,then seal them in Freezer bags. Each bag has a number. I made a list showing what number that bolt goes to.It might take a few extra minutes doing this but it stops the riflesfrom getting banged up in the close quarters of a safe.
I really don't see a problem removing the bolts. If you have small children I would trust taking the bolt out allot more ,then trusting a .98 centslock.

Remington could have done something that wasn't so gawdy looking and accomplished the same thing. I looked at S&W this weekend the big 500 and i may have swallow my words . they actually incorporated a lock system that isnt gawdy actually you can't even hardly see it unlike the klinton key.
Some around here know i love smith &wessons and i said i wouldnt buy another .....i may have spoken to soon . i saw the quality they used to have in that big hand howitzer.
And the remingtons i picked up the other night actually felt like the remingtons that i so fondly favored of the past. I will definately look further into them and to my wifes sure dislike i will more than likely add a few more to my personal gun collection.;):D

J-Locks have recently been discontinued on all models due to consumer pressure...nobody liked them. I spent the last weekend at the DFW gun show looking at Remingtons....some of the new ones in dealer stock still had them and some didn't. The higher serial numbers did not have them. I was looking for a 700 BDL in .243 and finally found one without the J-Lock at Academy that had just arrived at the store in the last couple of days. It was actually $50 less expensive than the ones at the gun show with the J-Lock. Color me a happy shooter!:)

I have also read on the forums that the new CDL does not have the J-Lock....not true...the older ones do have it, but the newer ones do not.

Many times i was at the range 3 or 4 days out of the week especially when it was getting toward the fall hunting season or a match was comeing up.
