It's a measurement of the kinetic energy a bullet contains when it's 100 yards out of the muzzle.

A ft-lb is the amount of energy required to move a one-pound mass one foot.

A couple of months ago I bought a Marlin 39A to practice off hand shooting. Since I just wanted to practice getting on target and squeezing (not jerking) the trigger, I picked up a couple thousand rounds of cheap ammo to go with it.
Then I read this post and bought a brick of 30gr. Aguila Super Maximums. What a difference! I'd never shot any high end 22LR before. I adjusted my zero from 40 yds. to 75 yds and I'm still only an inch high in the middle and need 2-3 inches holdover at 100. The boys on the plinking course are in for a rude awakening next time out. Thanks for the info.

According to my calculations the Velocitorof 40 grains at 1435 fps gives a muzzle energy of 184 ft-lbs.
the Aguila super mag of 30 gr. at 1750 fps has a muzzle energy of 205 ft-lbs. Aguila is the most powerfull.

Me= 1/2 MxVxV
where Mass is in slugs, 1 slug =32 lbs
Velocityis in ft/sec

yea but you are talkin muzzle energy, Im sure that 40 grain velocitor has more down range energy at 100 yards though. muzzle energy means nothing, down range energy means everything.

Heres some complimentary info from the manufacturers so you guys can compare these two loads. IMO of what I look for in performance of ammunition, the CCI velocitor has my vote.

Aquila 22 LR super maximum- 30 grain bullet, MV of 1,750 fps, ME of 204 ft-lbs. Velocity @ 100 yards- 1,191 fps, Energy @ 100 yards- 95 ft-lbs.

CCI velocitor 22 LR- 40 grain bullet, MV of 1,435 fps, ME of 183 ft-lbs.
Velocity @ 100 yards- 1,112 fps, Energy @ 100 yards- 110 ft-lbs.
